May 2021

While things are undoubtedly getting better and the future generally is looking much more promising, the detail in the First Minister's statement yesterday makes it clear we would unfortunately not be able to hold our meeting in May.  It has now been scheduled to hold it on Thursday 16th September at the Belvedere Hotel in Stonehaven.

April 2021

The Horizon Group have installed in the Memorial Garden an old fashioned plough of the type Robert Burns might have used. This has kindly been donated by local farmer Jim Bruce. For more information click here

January 2021

It has been deicided by the committee that in light of the ongoing COVID  situation and the lack of any Club activity  there will be no need to pay a subscription for the current year.

November 2020

Here is an update with what is happening with the Club or to be more precise what is not happening.

The majority view of the committee was that the 2021 supper should be cancelled. The 2021 Supper in January therefore will not go ahead. This is very sad and unfortunate as it is the highlight of the Club's yearly activities but obviously circumstances dictate this.

Re the AGM, the unanimous view was that we cancel the 2020 AGM. Cathie Dawson will be asked to contact the Belvedere and book their small dining room for an evening in May next year when we can hopefully meet and hold our 2021 AGM. All post holders and committee members have agreed to continue in their current post until then.

On a happier note The Horizon Group have done a power of work upgrading and maintaining the Burns Memorial garden in Barclay Street. It is looking very good and fresh now. To support their work it was agreed the Club should make a donation to the Horizon Group to help pay for materials they need to carry out this work. A sum of £240.00 has been given to the group to help their work. We are very grateful for the work they do on our behalf.  Visit our Horizon Page - click here

Frank Smith has become our representative on a new website called Stunning Stonehaven where he hopes to post news of the club when we resume our activities. The site address is www.stunningstonehaven.com

Keep safe and let's hope 2021 brings better times.

10th November 2020

Cancellation of AGM and Burns Supper

As the Covid 19 restrictions are still in place club activities are still suspended. It has been decided that The Burns Supper for January 2021 will regrettably  not go ahead and the AGM which should have been held in May 2020 will now be held next May

2021. All office bearers and committee members will continue in their posts until then. Sad but necessary I'm afraid.

March 2020                                Coronavirus

We have been watching the Coronavirus pandemic unfold, expecting that the day would come when we would have to suspend Burns Club activities for the health and safety of our members.

The next activity for the Club was to have been participation in the Feein' Market in June. This has now been cancelled

Meetings will hopefully resume in September - we will reschedule the AGM for September 2020.

During these hard times look after yourselves and if any of you find you need any support during the coming weeks or months don’t hesitate to contact the club via the email address.

Stay safe & well!

Stonehaven (Fatherland) Burns Club Committee

10th February 2020                      Jim McAllan

We were very sorry to hear that long standing member of the Stonehaven Burns Club Jim McAllan has passed away today aged 93. Jim was a member of the Club for over 50 years and was still an active member of the committee up until his death. He is notably famed for Haudin' the haggis at the clubs Burns Suppers on no less than 43 occasions.A quiet couthy farmin' man nothing was too much trouble for him and he will be sorely missed. Jim was given a special presentation on the occasion of his 40th Haudin and the tribute to him can be seen on the site of the Club Suppers in 2016. See here.  God bless Jim.
