Burns Memorial Garden

The Burns Memorial Garden is located in Stonehaven at the corner of Belmont Brae and the B979 (next to KwikFit).

Major redevelopment in the Burns Memorial Garden at the Belmont Brae was previously undertaken by Aberdeenshire Council. The refurbishment includes new flower beds, realigned paths and new benches. Red roses, heathers, honeysuckle and thyme - all plants which are associated with Burns' work have been chosen for the redesigned flower beds.

Members of the Horizon Project planted two rowan trees & two climbing roses. The group also helped Landscape Services with planting out the redesigned flower & shrub beds. The centrepiece of the garden, a bust of Robert Burns which was in need of repair, has been restored by Aberdeenshire Council.

The finishing touches were added to the redevelopment by erecting two wrought iron obelisks and two wrought iron handrails. The final phase of the garden was completed in February 2007 with the installation of an information board giving details of the Bard's family connections in the Mearns. The information board was donated by the Stonehaven (Fatherland) Burns Club.
