Stonehaven Burns Memorial Garden

Major redevelopment in the Burns Memorial Garden at the Belmont Brae has been undertaken by Aberdeenshire Council. The refurbishment includes new flower beds, realigned paths and new benches. Red roses, heathers, honeysuckle and thyme - all plants which are associated with Burns' work have been chosen for the redesigned flower beds. Members of the Horizon Project have planted 2 rowan trees and 2 climbing roses. The group have also helped Landscape Services with the planting out of the redesigned flower and shrub beds. The centrepiece of the garden - a bust of Robert Burns which was in need of repair, has been restored by Aberdeenshire Council.

The finishing touches have been added to the redevelopment by erecting 2 wrought iron obelisks and 2 wrought iron handrails. The final phase at the garden was completed in February 2007 with the installation of an information board giving details of the Bard's family connections in the Mearns. The information board was donated by the Stonehaven Branch of the Burns Fatherland Club
